| Located at the corner of
9th Avenue and East Burnside, Doug Fir is a very affordable,
150-capacity restaurant, bar, and outdoor patio area, featuring
impeccable service in an approachable, but appreciably fancy
setting. Serving Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Latenight, Doug
Fir is open seven days a week, from 7 am until 4 in the morning.
Great food specials are available daily between 3pm and 6pm,
and the full-service bar and patio is open through the day,
every day.
Menus and décor compliment one another, being a modernist
dinner house with profound Northwestern influence, an ideal
somewhere between "Twin Peaks" and a chic, cosmopolitan
truck stop. Like the name itself, Doug Fir conveys a local traditionalism,
and the menus, the hospitality, the sense of old-school comfort
and elegance follow that mark. Signature menu items include
Filet Mignon & Eggs Breakfast, Blackberry Salad, Venison
Tenderloin, Joe's Special and Biscuits & Gravy served all
day.
"Take the thick bias-cut baguettes at Doug Fir (830 E. Burnside
St., 503-231-9663). The sleekly macho grub pit of the hipster
Jupiter Hotel, Doug Fir looks like the secret love nest of Doris
Day and Dan'l Boone, and the menu treats its version of pain perdu
with frontier flippancy, referring to it as "Frenchy toast."
In the competition for best in town, it's a serious contender:
a hefty portion made with egg, cinnamon, vanilla and a dollop
of creme frache. You can get it with maple syrup if you ask
nicely, but the regular topping -- a rich, gooey, concentrated
blackberry sauce -- is a big part of its appeal.

" Doug Fir's lounge has generated a
lot of buzz because of the numerous rising-star bands that have
dotted its lineup. But it's not the only thing that rocks around
here. The restaurant, with its gotta-see crowd and playful atmosphere,
offers plenty of reasons to show up early for the show."
