| The newest venture
by Monqui Presents co-owner Mike Quinn (formerly of La Luna),
along with partners John Plummer (Johnny Sole, East Chinatown
Lounge) and Jeff Kovel (Skylab Design), Doug Fir elevates the
standard of medium sized live music venues in Portland.
Designed by noted modern architect Jeff Kovel
of Skylab
Design, Doug Fir is a state of the art venue that
is unlike any live music room currently existing in Portland.
Conveying a new twist on the Northwest aesthetic, Doug Fir is
swank yet comfortable, the interior of the club draws on 50’s
modernism, with generous original woodwork, one of a kind glass
design and a full range menu spanning breakfast, lunch, dinner
and late night. Nestled in the corner of the Jupiter Hotel property,
the Lounge offers direct proximity to fabulous accommodations
at distinctly low rock and roll prices.
Doug Fir is proud to have Alicia J. Rose as in-house
booking manager. Rose, formerly Director of Sales & Marketing
at NAIL Distribution, brings to Doug Fir a vast knowledge of
popular music as well as a solid background in live music promotion.
Before her move to Portland in 1995, she was head booker at
the infamous Chameleon in San Francisco’s Mission District,
as well as holding down the fort at other bay area venues over
the 90’s – the Covered Wagon, The Thirsty Swede,
The Nightbreak and others. She has also dabbled in promotion
in Portland with her “Night of the Living Accordion”
series (in conjunction with Ripe) as well as hosting other events.
She spent almost a decade with NAIL Distribution, utilizing
her A&R skills by selecting labels for NAIL's roster, setting
up countless retail promotions and ultimately building NAIL
into a 5 million+ company during her tenure. She has also served
as a talent scout for Capitol Records, label manager for Pink
Martini/Heinz Records, and in her early years slaved as a record
store clerk in a passle of stores in SF and PDX. She also runs
a photography business that specializes in innovative portraiture
of rock bands (amongst other things) and counts herself as the
first punk rock avant accordion player - Miss Murgatroid. |
